Breath-Taking Dallas Arboretum

This past spring, just out side of the megalopolis of Dallas, Texas, I had a quick visit to an oasis of water, trees, flowers, ornamental shrubs and architectural hardscapes which complimented the plantings. While the spring blooms were winding down, I could see how this pubic garden could be enjoyed all year round.
The Dallas Arboretum located on the shores of White Rock Lake, is 66 acres of display gardens with a variety of season color and plant collections. One could spend many leisurely hours strolling the wide open lawns, or secluded garden rooms, with views of White Rock Lake, or silent introspection, and never tire.
The Arboretum preserves the historic DeGolyer Estate, home to Everette and Nell DeGolyer, as it was bequeathed to Southern Methodist University in 1972 at Nell’s death and later sold to the City of Dallas. The estate is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Spanish Colonial Revival style home is open for touring most days, following its renovation which began in 2010.
“The mission of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical gardens is to build and maintain a public garden and arboretum which promotes the art, enjoyment, and knowledge of horticulture, while proving opportunities for education and research.” Open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with admission fees from $12.00 for adults with discounts for seniors and children, with children under 3 free.
