A QUIVER FULL OF ARROWS by Geoffrey Archer is entertaining as you travel. It is a collection of four short stories by this masterful British story teller. Each is well-written with an interesting twist in the development. Most enjoyable listening!
TRADE WINDS by M.M.Kaye is perhaps one of the best audio novels we have every heard. It is for a very long trip because it encompasses, in the unabridged version, about 25 hours of fascinating listening. The writer spent many years in British Colonies and writes about them, weaving a tantalizing love story with terrific characterization into the history and exquisite descriptions of the time and place. This one is set in Zanzibar during slave trading days in the mid-1800's. It is beautifully written and read. It will hold your attention to the very last word and you'll be sorry it is not even longer! The only problem is that after this listening you will find it difficult to find another audio novel so captivating
LIGHTNING is another of Dean Koontz's really fascinating novels. This one involves time travel with a Nazi prison guard coming back to save a woman and help in destruction of Hitler. Fanciful, as are all of Koontz's works.
Pigs In Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver is an excellent listen while traveling through the Western United States. It is the story of a Native American girl named "Turtle," who performs an heroic act which is covered on Television. The TV coverage leads to consequences that help her discover her heritage. It is filled with terrific metaphors, as only Kingsolver can do, and has beautiful and unusual descriptions. It is read by the author.
Audible.com is a wonderful way to first find books on tape without having to go to the bookstores and spend a lot of time sorting through what is available. Their books are placed in catagories, so the search is simplified, and then each book has a rating and a description. Once you find the book you want you can easily place the book in your Audible online library through a download procedure that is simple and takes from 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the length of the book. Once in the library, the book is put into what is called the archive section, and you can either listen to the book on your computer or download the book to CDs through the burn CD part of the Audible programing. The instructions for downloading and listening and CD burning the books purchased is very easy to understand and follow. Audible.com has an excellent help line for those that have trouble with the downloading, or listening. or burning the books to CD. Audible gives the purchaser a greater chance to get unabridged books for listening, which is a plus when most audio books offered in bookstores are abridged. We highly recommend joining this wonderful travel resource. You'll be amazed at the great array of selections you have.
