This KOA is a Special Find!
By Bill Neely
Tucked away in a beautiful hilly farmland area of West Chester, Pennsylvania, about forty minutes from both Philadelphia and Wilmington, Deleware, is a KOA which is a real find.  Well managed, this park has 118 sites ranging from full hook-ups for large RV's to lovely wooded tent campsites by the river.  As other KOA's, it also has several dry Kabins and additionally two fully equipped lodge/Kottages which hold six and four with bathroom and kitchen.

The beautiful Kampground is on a lovely green hill, but all sites are very level and good gravel interior roads.  Several bathhouses, a large laundry, store, large playground, mini golf, volleyball court, gameroom, beautiful swimming pool are all to welcome guests. Additionally the river peacefully meanders beside the lower, heavily wooded campsites where you can fish from your picnic tables!  You can also rent kayaks and canoes to explore the quiet river yourself, or take a hike upstream.

This KOA is a wonderful location for exploring a very interesting and historic section of the Northeastern megolopolis, where you could find more site-seeing than you could possibly manage in a month! At the Chester County Tourist Center on US 1 before you get to the KOA stop and purchase the coupon booklet which gives you free admission to the many museums, gardens, mansions, and many more fascinating tours in this historic Brandywine River area.  You'll also find discounts at several lovely restaurants. The friendly volunteers at the tourist centers can help you plan your time to best advantage and according to your interests, whether it be a TV studio tour, Sesame Place, battlefields of the Revolution, the Franklin Mint and more.

You are ten minutes from the train to Philadelphia, which stops at the historic center.  There are bus tours from the Kampground going to Philly, Lancaster, Amish Country, and Valley Forge. At the Kampground there are planned activities all summer including hayrides and Sunday pancake breakfasts.

For reservations or directions call 1-800-KOA-1726 or 1-610-486-0447, or click here.  This Kampground is open April 1 through October 31.  The only drawback to this wonderful Kampground is the narrow and winding road leading to it when you turn off Highway 82 onto 162 North at Unionville.  It is a beautiful drive and RV's and fifth wheels are permitted, even though the driving is tight. Go carefully through this exquisite farmland of the mid-Atlantic region. These historic roads are in excellent condition but were laid out before big vehicles were invented!
