Quebec's Cote Nord...Sept Iles and Historic Lighthouse By Bonnie & Bill Neely In 1964 when the electrified lighthouse eliminated the need for the keeper, the government planned to tear down the old lighthouse and all the outer houses. However, protests from citizens persuaded the government to preserve this historical edifice. The caretaker's home in 1980 became a very fine restaurant and bed and breakfast hotel. Four guest rooms on the second floor can hold two, three or four people. The cuisine is as exquisite as it is delicious... a five course dinner. Read More... Camping at Stone Mountain By Bonnie & Bill Neely If you are in the Atlanta Georgia area, a stop over at Stone Mountain is an absolute for a day or a week of fun. We discovered the Stone Mountain Campground, planned to stay one night, and extended our stay much longer than that! With 440 campsites, Stone Mountain Lake and Campground has...Read More The Petroglyphs of Parowan Gap, Utah By Bonnie & Bill Neely For summer Solstice we were fortunate to join an educational celebration at Parowan Gap near Cedar City, Utah. It is one you MUST attend if you are able to travel there. Parowan Gap is a unique place in all the world, a natural and anthropological wonder. It is a natural narrow gap between two mountains, and on the Solstice, the sun sets exactly in the middle! Read More Tau't Bato and Palawan Tribe By Antonio Graceffo The Batak and Tagbanua, tribes who live inside of the Puerto Princesa city limits, are protected by Tagbalay Foundation, the City Tribal office, and Mayor Hagedorn's tribal aid projects which include medical assistance, education, free seeds for farming, and a push to establish land deeds for the tribal people under the Ancestral Domain legislation. But the tribes outside of the city limits are more or less on their own, with little or no aid coming in. Read More... Palm Springs- Paradise in the Desert By Ron Kapon The San Andreas Fault crosses the valley which is sometime called “The Desert Empire”. The Agua Caliente band of Cahuilla Indians has lived in the area since their reservation was established in 1896. They are the largest land owners in Palm Springs with over 6,700 acres of reservation land within the city limits. The city has a warm, dry climate with less than 6 inches of rain a year. The dry desert heat during the summer means temperatures over 100, which cools to the 70’s at night. Read More... Yemen, Uncommon Trip For Americans Today, Part 1 By Leslie Adams One cannot really travel alone in Yemen because of the roads, limited mass transit and, of course, the potential danger. Therefore, you have to go on a tour. Carmen and I joined up with a Dutch company called Djoser that was leading a group of fifteen Germans, plus me. I checked out another company here in the US, and they do not go to Yemen due to the difficulty in obtaining a visa, which I did have trouble getting. Read More... Hex Marks the Spot By Kregg P. J. Jorgenson 'Witches,' he replied. 'At least one of the many off-shoot groups anyway.''Ah!' I said ah-ing not really understanding the difference. Black pointy hats and brooms would have helped but apparently that's old school perception. These days you're likely to find a wide array of dress from tie-dyed shirts with jeans to elaborate robes complete with crystal necklaces, capes, and wooden staves. Read More...
