Snow in the Sequoias Means Family Fun at the Wuksachi Lodge
Special room rates and snow play activities abound at this California winter retreat
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif., Nestled high in the heart of Sequoia National Park, the cozy 102-room Wuksachi Lodge offers guests a winter wonderland experience minus the crowds often found at larger ski resorts.
With more than 70 miles of marked ski trails that range from beginner to advanced and wind through groves of majestic Sequoia trees, Sequoia National Park is the perfect place to enjoy the exhilarating sport of cross-country skiing. The Wuksachi Lodge’s Winter Adventure package provides nightly accommodations and all-day rentals of cross-country skis, boots and poles for two. Snowshoe rentals can be substituted for those who prefer to sightsee at a slower pace. Rates start at $125 plus tax per night.
Providing families with everything they'll need for a fun-filled day in the snow, the Winter Family Fun package includes nightly accommodations, snowshoe rentals for each adult in the room plus a brand new sled for the kids to keep. Rates start at $136 plus tax (based on two adults and one child).
Visitors to this idyllic setting can further immerse themselves in winter at the Wolverton Recreation Area, located just a few miles from the Wuksachi Lodge. In addition to offering an expansive snow play and sledding area, Wolverton’s trails lead to the famous General Sherman Tree, the largest living tree on earth by volume, and the Giant Forest's popular Big Trees Trail.
On Jan. 14, the Wuksachi Lodge will host a snowman building contest in partnership with the Sequoia Foothills Chamber of Commerce. All ages are welcome to participate. Competitors and onlookers are invited to come up for the day or stay the night and enjoy hot apple cider, sweet treats, fun prizes and discounts on snowshoe rentals and lunch at the Wuksachi Lodge Dining Room. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. and conclude with winners announced at 4 p.m.
In appreciation of everyday heroes, the Wuksachi Lodge is also extending a winter discount of 20% off room rates, food and retail to military, firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel. Winter lodging discounts and packages are valid weather permitting and subject to availability through March 31, 2012. Holiday bookings are still available.
