After the success of "Paris-Dakar by Bike", Bike-Dreams organises an even more challenging bike race/expedition. A ride of 11.000 fascinating kilometres along, through and over the longest mountain range in the world, called "The Andes Trail". The tour starts August 9th, 2008 at the equator near Quito and finishes December 14th, 2008 in Ushuaia in Argentina, the most southern town in the world and for that reason nicknamed the "End-of-the-World". A bicycle tour from the middle to the end of the world.

The cyclists get a wide range of landscapes on their way south thru Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Sleeping volcanoes, dense rainforests, isolated areas, coloured canyons, crystal blue lakes, impressive glaciers, endless deserts, green valleys, granite peaks and the pampas.
Every kind of road condition can be expected. The majority of the roads is paved nicely, but the cyclists come also across some rough roads with washboards, rocks and loose sand. The route crosses even the white planes of a huge salt lake without any road at all. Also the weather conditions vary enormously in the Andes. The cyclists might get intense heat, severe rain showers, freezing temperatures and fierce winds. The mountains and the altitudes up to almost 5.000 metres give an extra dimension to the tour.

The full expedition takes just over 4 months. For people with less time it is also possible to cycle a section of the tour. Twenty two days are planned to take a well deserved rest or to explore places of interest along the route. The accommodation is a combination of camping and spending the nights in hotels. Special designed overland trucks support the tour to transport all equipment.

Participants cover the distance within their own capabilities and in a pace they determine. This means that they can compete with the others and try to cover the distance as fast as possible, so that there is finally a winner in the-end-of-the-world. Cyclists can also choose to take it easy and enjoy the beauty of the Andes in all her facets. The landscape, the culture and the people.
The pioneers of the first edition encounter unexpected situations, but get also a lot of respect from the friendly Andean people along the trail. The bicycle is still the most environmental friendly and sustainable way to travel. No pollution, no noise and no damage of valuable nature.

"The Andes Trail" is open for cyclists from all around the world to create an exceptional atmosphere, during as well as after the bike ride. The costs of the full tour is 7.900 euro. Visit the website www.bike-dreams.com for detailed information.
