 The Women's Museum To Launch Star-Struck and Texas Girls' State Fair
New exhibit premieres collection of celebrated fashions from award-winning films;
Annual event returns to honor achievements of placeStateTexas adolescent girls
during the 2007 State Fair of StateplaceTexas

CityplaceDALLAS, Sept. 26, 2007 -The Women's Museum: An Institute for the Future, today announced that, during the 2007 State Fair of Texas, it will premiere Star-Struck, a new exhibit that contains 18 movie costumes from well-known films from the 1930s through today; and, it will bring back the Texas Girls' State Fair, the event honoring the achievements and interests of adolescent Texas girls.  Timed to coincide with the State Fair of Texas and its 3-4 million visitors, Star-Struck opens Friday and runs through Oct. 28.  The Texas Girls' State Fair runs concurrent with the fair, through Oct. 21.  

STAR-STRUCK
Through Star-Struck, Mary Rose, the curator of last year's Marilyn Monroe exhibit at the museum, brings an exhibit of well known costumes worn by a number of well known “leading women” of the silver screen:  From Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady to Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls and Kate Winslett in Titanic, these costumes will be on display, along with 50 original designers' sketches. Sketches are from Academy Award-winning or nominated films, from the Sound of Music to Hollywoodland. Movie posters and film clips will add depth to the exhibit.

placeStateTEXAS GIRLS' STATE FAIR
     The only event of its kind held in the state, the Texas Girls' State Fair will include academic, sports, and musical exhibitions with a variety of entertainment and educational opportunities for museum visitors.  Created, founded, and established by The Women's Museum, the event is designed to show what girls are doing, thinking about, and achieving in today's society. As such, during the event, the museum's 70,000 square-foot building will host a lively collection of performances, competitions, and educational opportunities-celebrating art, music, sports, math, science, fashion, and more-all staged in and around the museum's permanent Smithsonian collections.

The Women's Museum Announces Star-Struck and StateplaceTexas Girls' State Fair/ Add One

Competitions and performances for and by placeStateTexas girls will occur daily, and a schedule of these will be available to the public at www.thewomensmuseum.org. In addition, the museum will include the following ongoing exhibits, programs, and learning experiences for children and adults:
ExxonMobil Let's Go Science Show In this program, Ms. Knowitall and Professor Smart demonstrate the principles of physics for the young as well as for the young at heart. Professor Smart shrinks his head, has toilet paper flying, juggles and has people's hair standing on end, while Ms. Knowitall, researcher and comedian sidekick, keeps the facts straight in this educational program. Daily performances will be 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m in the AT&T Gathering. (Note: No shows Oct. 10 and 16.)
Fiesta Mexicana! Dallas Puppet Theater Fiesta Mexicana! is a story of an American couple, Michael and Agnes, who visit country-regionplaceMexico on their honeymoon. Through their eyes, we experience the sights and sounds of placecountry-regionMexico. The program brings to life the traditional hat dance, mariachis, and more in a performance style designed to entertain audiences of any age. Daily performances will be 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the AT&T Auditorium.
Scholastic Book Fair - Scholastic, the global children's' publishing, education, and media company will return to The Women's Museum during the 2007 State Fair of Texas. Stop by Scholastic's area to meet Clifford The Big Red Dog and Maya & Miguel. Families can browse the book collections, knowing that a portion of the proceeds from book sales is being donated to the museum. Visitors can see Clifford The Big Red Dog weekends at noon and Maya & Miguel weekends at 3 p.m.
Girl Who Rock! Music Festival -During the third weekend of The Fair, the museum will present Girls Who Rock! Music Festival just outside of the Museum. The line up includes:
Friday, Oct. 12: 2:00 p.m., Melissa Mullins; 3:00 p.m., addressStreetTara Road;
Saturday, Oct. 13: 2:00 p.m.,Vocal Graffiti; 3:00 p.m., Lisa Markley (solo); 5:00 p.m., Merry & the Mood Swings;
Sunday, Oct. 14: 2:00 p.m., Annie Benjamin; 3:00 p.m., Bandmates.

A Smithsonian affiliate, The Women's Museum is the nation's only comprehensive women's history museum that chronicles the lives of American women through interactive exhibits.  The Women's Museum is supported, in part, by the City of CityplaceDallas and the Texas Commission on the Arts.  From Sept. 28 through Oct. 21-during the State Fair of StateplaceTexas-admission to The Women's Museum and its exhibits will be free, and the museum will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
