Where To Stay at Bryce Canyon

If crowds bother you, book ahead with one of the motels about 10 miles from Bryce near the town of  Tropic, a lush, verdant oasis of palm trees and tropical vegetation in ironic contrast to the desertscape mountains. Motels in this area are closed in some months, so call to be sure.

Ruby's InnBy far the most popular tour bus mecca is the year-round Ruby Lodge, just outside the national Park Entrance on Hwy 63, or the newer Bryce View Motel, open May to October  In summer you must book ahead. This huge, privately owned center is well managed in its fifth generation of Ruby and Minnie Syrett's family ownership, and handles the needs and demands of thousands of tourists daily year-round. The restaurant, which seats 300, has hot and delicious food served promptly and unbelievably good for such a bustling place…but eat at an off-peak hour or get in line early!

Ruby's Inn.  Now a Best Western property, it is a full service travel mecca of Highway 12, famous for more than a century of service to weary travelers.  THey have about 370 rooms which stay nearly full year-round.  This is a famiy run business, now in its fifth generation, the great grandchildren of the original "Ruby", who came here in 1916 as an early settler and had a ranch near Bryce Canyon. When he told his friends of the beauty of the scenery they flocked to visit  in such numbers he built a Travelers' Rest lodge where friends could stay.  This became a bed and breakfast and then when the Union Pacific Railroad discovered the area a big lodge was constructed on the site and Ruby opened his visitor's rest haven a few miles away.  THis has grown through century as needs demanded to meet every traveler's requirements and satisfaction.  The huge main building includes a very good restaurant which can handle 350 people with expert and efficient service and delicious food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a large gift shop of Western art and collectibles for quality souvenirs. The market supplies any type of snack food and needs you could have as a hiker or for your stay in their excellent RV park with full hook-ups and Camp Grounds, where you can even rent an authentic Teepee to sleep in.  In summer you'll find a good fast food Western Diner and lots of shops to enjoy, a nightly rodeo, and trail rides on horse back through the Canyon or other destinations nearby.  There is high speed internet access, an ATM and foreign money exchange, photo developing, hair salon, indoor pool, meeting rooms... just about every conceivable need has been met well in this travel center which is many miles from other services.  But make your reservations very early!  801-834-5341

Nearby you'll also find the excellent Byrce Canyon National Park Campground for tents and RV's. Make reservations as early as possible.  www.Americanparknetwork.com
