“Sin City” Is An Adult's Playground
By Katie Mooney
Las Vegas, Sin CityWho wouldn't enjoy the bright lights and glitzy casinos of Las Vegas?  “Sin City” is an adult's playground; I've even heard it called the “Disneyland for adults” by fellow Vegas-goers.  Its energy-packed nightlife goes on allday.  There, people can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  They can get lucky or die trying.  It sounds like a wonderland of excitement and indulgence doesn't it?  Not if you're 20!
I traveled to Las Vegas this past summer as a 20 year old and I had a difficult time finding anything to do!  Even though Vegas has become more family-oriented and geared more toward adults with little kids, it has very little to offer for those un-lucky travelers   who are too old for pirate shows and too young to gamble and enjoy the crazy nightlife.  Sure the shopping in Vegas is outrageous with indoor malls on every block and the hotels that are attractions themselves, but is that really a young adult's idea of a good time?  What's the nearly 21-year-old to do?
When scoping out my options, I found very few.  For example, my family and I were staying at the MGM Grand, home of the new Studio 54 Nightclub, and what I thought to be a great place to meet people my own age.  But when I finally stumbled upon it after an hour of navigating through the monstrosity of a hotel, I was greeted by teeny-bopping sixteen year old girls in tube tops and skimpy black leather skirts waiting to sneak a peek at Justin Timberlake who had performed at the MGM the night before.  Not exactly my idea of a good time.
Even my mom, the most honest person I know, suggested I get a fake id so I could gamble and explore the Vegas nightlife.  But when it got rejected at a lounge show in Caesar's Palace, my hopes of an enjoyable Vegas vacation faded.  I was soon being entertained by Wayne Newton's out-of-date show at the Stardust amongst 70-year-old women and taking pictures with cheesy actors dressed as Gladiators or Roman Goddesses at Caesar's Palace.  There were no places for people my age to get together and hangout; no “Under 21” clubs (as cheesy as they are), or even college nights to indulge in.
Take my word for it: don't travel to Las Vegas if you're under 21 unless you enjoy pirate shows with toddlers and going to bed when most of the town is just waking up to play.
