Asheville, NC, Mountains Perfect Place to Honeymoon
By Bonnie Neely

Grove Park Inn Welcome
Beautiful Grove Park Inn nestled in the Smoky Mountains is the perfect place to honeymoon. The lovelyhistorical facilitieswere  built in 1913 in the style of a hunting lodge for America's rich and famous.  The huge stones and giant wood beams which create its magnificent and unique architecture were hand cut and pulled by horse-drawn sled in a building project that amazed everyone of  the early nineteenth century.  Asheville was considered THE place to be to "take the air" for health in that era, and today visitors still come for the matchless scenic beauty of nature and the invigorating mountain atmosphere.  Built into the mountainside, the modernizatons retain the wonderful views of the blue mountain ridges, which change to vivid reds and goldens in autumn, while now including a gorgeous indoor-outdoor spa with a mineral pool and an outdoor  natural waterfall.  This five-star spa is so popular space must be booked about four months in advance.

If you marry at Christmastime, you'll be able to see  the famous gingerbread competition.  From elementary aged children to adults enter their best creations, which are displayed in the Vanderbilt Wing.  Often during the Christmas season you will enjoy Christmas carols sung by touring school children and even the Inn staff.

Not only the rich and famous golf pros enjoy the challenge of Grove Park's hilly golf course, but guests can arrange lessons or just enjoy their own rounds by reserved tee times.

Several restaurants with top chefs provide Grove Park Inn's guests with a wide variety of atmospheres and menus. Horizons, the most upscale restaurant, is exquisite dining at its best.  Another dining option is on the porch of the main lodge where you are served outside and have an unobstructed view of the beautiful mountains. At Chops Restaurant, where our bride and groom chose to eat, there is special seating beside a huge, cozy fireplace, and the atmosphere is so-o-o romantic with many candles set into the rock walls of the room! And our couple reported "Killer desserts! and recommended the Heath Bar chololate layered cake is to die for!"  The food and service in all Grove Park's restaurants are impeccable and honeymooners were treated like royalty!

There is often nightly entertainment going on at the Inn, and at Christmas time Grove Park Inn is famous for its gorgeous decorations and sumptious food. The lovely pool and cozy bar are always favorites, as are the wonderful shops within the Inn. And just outside the main hotel, you'll find historic shops featuring some of the finest hand-crafted items you'll find anywhere.  Mountain crafts at their very finest are sought here by collectors and elite shoppers who demand the best. You'll find items from furniture to clothing, toys, jewelry, pieces for the home and for many hobbies.  You can also spend hours at the Old Car Museum on site.

Be sure to reserve your spa plans very early.
If you are brave you can request to stay in room 545 where you may be lucky enough to see the Pink Lady, the ghost who inhabits that room!
